About Us

Since 1909 . . .

About Us - BondsJacob D. Dresner and Henry Mooney, two attorneys from the New Orleans area, shared a dream. The two attorneys had decided that they wanted to provide the residents of Greater New Orleans with increased opportunities for home ownership. On June 19, 1909, their dream was realized with the chartering of Greater New Orleans Homestead.

Jacob Dresner and Henry Mooney became members of the original Board of Directors for GNO Homestead. Joseph Dresner, Jacob’s brother, became GNO Homestead’s first managing officer – a position he would hold for the next 58 years.

Through the years, Greater New Orleans Homestead evolved into a full-service federal savings bank. Eventually the name Greater New Orleans Homestead ceased to fully and accurately represent the comprehensive list of services offered by the bank. It was for this reason that the decision was made to change the name of the bank. On August 29, 2000 Greater New Orleans Homestead amended its charter and changed its name to Bank of New Orleans.
